The AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail-Safe Ohmmeter (and AMPTEC 620A4R Water Resistant version) is a portable, battery powered 4 ½ digit DC Ohmmeter that safely measures electrical resistance for use on a variety of potentailly hazardous devices. The term "Fail-Safe" means it has been specifically designed (to remain inert if it breaks) and as a result it is often ideal for ultra-safe resistance testing on current sensitive devices (i.e. squibs, igniters, flares, airbags, explosive bolts).elements and components (using 1/100th to 1/1000 less current levels that most meters).  

The AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail Safe Ohmmeter (ICT) has had its circuitry reviewed and approved by U.S.A.F. NNM Safety Board for use on virtually all squibs (ie C-130 Fire Bottle Squibs for Air Craft Engine Fires etc) .  This failsafe Ohmmeter tester was specifically designed for ultra-safe resistance testing on sensitive or hazardous explosive devices (i.e. squibs, igniters, flares, detonators). The AMPTEC 620A-4 is the only digital Failsafe Ohmmeter / Safety Tester used by the USAF. The USAF Technical Equipment support selected the AMPTEC 620A-4 FailSafe Ohmmeter (ICT) to (USAF TECH ORDER) replace all their inventory of the obsolete, discontinued, and potential dangerous Alinco 101-5BFG Ohmmeters. Some competitors may claim to have a Safety Board Approvals but we are the only company to offer proof in writing that the USAF, US NAVY SAFETY OFFICE have Approved and are actively using the AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail Safe Ohmmeter. .  .  The AMPTEC 620AA-4 is also the only Igniter Circuit Tester that is MIL STD 810 Method 511 rev F, Explosive and Volatile Atmospheres Certified to +50°C. It is also approved for use on USAF C-130 Transport (for Emergency Engine Fire Control - Fire Bottle Extinguishing Squib System), approved for the USAF C3 AWACS ( Airborne Warning and Control Systems - Fire Supression System).

The AMPTEC 620A-4 Fail Safe Ohmmeter NSN package includes: a 48" Dual Banana to Alligator Igniter Circuit Tester Lead set (OP290), Battery Charger (OPDC), Operator Mantenance Manual (OPMAN), Dual Banana to 2 pin Circular Plug Adapter (AIM 7 Adapter -OP430), the foam lined transit case also holds all accessories (OP100), and a N.I.S.T. traceability calibration certificate under the NSN 6625-01-460-1499NM.  The accessories described above may also be purchased separately as options.  In addition a single pointed handheld Kelvin Lead probe set (OP401) for testing wiring continuity on items such as recessed sockets/pins on connectorsis also available. For a data sheet of all the accessories, test leads, probes and options that are compatible with the AMPTEC 601ES DMM, 620A-4, 620BH, 620ES, 620GD, 620RK etc select here.

Optically Isolated RS232C Interface Option with full remote control

Now any AMPTEC 620A series Igniter Circuit Tester ( AMPTEC 620A-4, 620ES, 620BH, 620RK etc.) can be safely operated remotely with an "optically isolated RS232C interface" option.  The AMPTEC's optically isolated serial interface allows complete remote control (i.e. change to the desired range). Remote reading of the actual igniter (squib) resistance is completely controlled by the serial interface of a PC (i.e. COM2 port). For safety purposes, the optically coupled interface is designed to be electronically isolated (protected) and will withstand up to 5,300 VRMS input or output via the Option "232" isolated serial interface.

In addition the Option "232" RS232C Remote Control Serial interface includes a rear panel Gold Plated 4 Wire Terminal strip (Voltage high, Currrent high, Voltage low, and Current Low) which is wired in parallel with the unit's front panel measurement input jacks.

Integrity of Measurement and an instrument's accuracy is important to us and should be important to you. AMPTEC 620A-4R Ruggedized (Water / Dust Resistant) Igniter Tester version 

The AMPTEC 620A-4R Water Resistant Safety Ohmmeter (Igniter Tester) internally is electrically identical to the US Air Force safety board approved AMPTEC 620A-4 Igniter Tester circuitry. 

The advantage is the AMPTEC 620A-4R is a ruggedized, water-resistant, portable digital ohmmeter which have been specifically designed for ultra-safe resistance testing on explosive devices (i.e. squibs, igniters, flares, detonators). The AMPTEC 620A-4R case is water proof when closed to a depth of 3 feet.
