AMPTEC 620UK Explosive and Volatile Environment Safety Ohmmeter/Igniter
Tester
NSN 6625-99-833-7949
The 620UK Low
Resistance Explosive Safety Ohmmeter/Igniter Tester is a portable
Intrinsically Safe Explosive Safety Digital Ohmmeter. It was
specifically designed (and UK Ministry of Defense EEX Approved) to replace the Fairey Mk7 ohmmeter
for ultra-safe resistance testing around fueling depots (flammable
vapours present), Aircraft bonds/connections, refineries and
explosive devices (i.e. squibs, igniters, flares, detonators,
munitions, warheads) in volatile and explosive atmospheres.
The AMPTEC 620UK Ohmmeter complies with the EU ATEX Directive
and is Intrinsic Safety Standard (Eex-ib-IIc-T4) compliant and
certified under the ATEX Laboratory Certificate # SIRA03ATEX2076.
The 620UK is Intrinsically Safe certified and can be safely
used and "located where flammable gases and vapours of groups IIA, IIB,
and IIC are present". The 620UK Ohmmeter is only certified
for use in ambient temperatures in the range of -20°C and
+40°C and should not be used outside this temparature range.
The AMPTEC 620UK Safety Ohmmeter is also: EMC tested in accordance with
British Defence Standard 59-41 and British Defence Standards 66-31,
07-85 and 05-34 (-40° Cold temperature, Damp Heat
+°70C, Humidity and Altitude tests) compliant. The
620UK Ohmmeter provides a reliable and safe means of measuring
resistance in explosive and volatile atmospheres

Intrinsically
Safe Ohmmeter - EeX-ib-IIC-T4 British Defense Standard Compliant
The 620UK circuitry
has been independently laboratory certified as EEx "Intrinsically Safe"
more than just safe in the unlikely event of a worst case component
failure. The AMPTEC 620UK Explosive Safety Ohmmeter output
current limiting is still in effect, regardless of component failure by
total design insite and compliance to the International Safety Standard
of EeX-ib-IIC-T4.
MIL STD 810, Method 511, rev F "Explosive and
Volatile Atmosphere" Laboratory Tested

The AMPTEC 620UK
Explosive Safety Ohmmeter has been independently laboratory certified
as MIL
STD 810, Method 511 (revision F) Explosive and Volatile Atmosphere
compliant up to +50°C.
The AMPTEC 620UK Safety Ohmmeter was remotely operated in an explosive
atmospheric chamber ( Air fuel mixed with highly
volatile hexane ). While fully
operational, the AMPTEC 620UK
test lead
contacts were successfully shorted then and
disconnected 400 times in the explosive atmospheric fuel air mixture
and shown to be fully compliant @ +50°C. A copy of the test
report is available ( 620UK
MIL STD 810_511 test ) .

U.S.
NAVY Ordnance Safety Board ( Indianhead MD) Approved - For use on Evolved Sea Sparrow
Missile Squibs (ESSM )
The AMPTEC 620UK
Explosive Safety Ohmmeter has also been US NAVY Ordnance Safety Board
Approved for use on Evolved Sea Sparrow ( ESSM) Missile squibs
- including rocket motor and warhead missile squibs. A copy of the US
NAVY Ordnance Safety Board Approval is available for your review. ( AMPTEC 620UK

Low
Ohm Range - Accuracy and Resolution
A common question is
"What does AMPTEC offer to improve the measurement accuracy and
resolution with a low resistance value squib/detonator
measurement/application?". Hence the development of the
AMPTEC 620UK Explosive Safety Igniter Tester. The 620UK
offers the following fullscale ranges - 2.0 Ohm, 20 Ohm, 200 Ohm and 20
Kohm, 200K Ohm and 2.0M Ohm. The 2.0 Ohm fullscale range
provides a two-wire Kelvin resistance measurement from 0.0000 ohms to
1.9999 ohms. The 2.0 Ohm range also offers a low (1/10) 0.1 milliohm or
100 microhm resolution. The 2.0M ohm range provides a
relatively high resistance range for determining electrical "isolation"
status or open circuit (>2.0M Ohms) character of ordnance
related control lines, pins , sockets, and wiring.
The AMPTEC 620UK
Intrinsically Safe Ohmmeter comes with a precision ten turn
front panel knob adjust capability. This allows the AMPTEC 620UK Safety
Ohmmeter user to fine tune most any in series "Contact or Test Lead
Resistance Offsets and Errors.
Better
and Safer than a Multifunction DMM
Multifunction DMMs
have many modes (i.e DC Voltage, AC Voltage, DC current, AC current,
frequency, shift keys, Capacitance and more..) that can accidentally
mis-measure igniter circuit resistance. If the DMM has an
electrical fault, the igniter circuit may accidentally fire.
The 620UK Igniter Tester only measures resistance, it is not
a complex multifunction DMM. If the 620UK had an electrical
fault it offers the life saving advantage of failing safe.
No
Hazardous Mercury Batteries
The 620UK does not use
hazardous mercury batteries like those used in the older model igniter
testers. All 620UK Igniter Testers are powered by 4 AA
Alkaline batteries that have been officially approved as EEX battery
type compliant. The AMPTEC 620UK Ohmmeter may be used with
the Duracell MN1500 mfg. of AA batteries as well as several other
approved brands.
Polyurethane
Epoxy Encapsulated Coated Circuit Board and More ...
A common question we
get from evaluating safety engineers is "What sort of electrical and
mechanical measures are taken with the AMPTEC 620UK
to prevent an internal loose wire, metal screw, or washer
inside from floating around and shorting the battery output to the
terminal output connections?". The ohmmeter's output
connections are insulated inside the unit with heat shrink tubing
covering any of it's conductive surfaces. The entire PCB
(except for the calibration trim pots) is also non-conductice
polyurethane epoxy encapsulated/coated, to make it extremely difficult
to get an accidental conductive pathway.
